The Grisons is a land of variety and contrast. Glacial ice, a Mediterranean climate, Edelweiss and palm trees are only a stone’s throw apart.
The Grisons offers high quality of life the whole year round and is extremely attractive as a business location offering interesting products for investors and companies alike. With its above-average hours of sunshine and mist-free view of the beautiful scenery, the Grisons is a very attractive sport and leisure area. As the highest region in the alps, the Grisons is home to around 1000 mountain with more than 450 of these above 3000 m high. Where there are summits, there are also valleys. 150 valleys are connected by 400 km of railroad tracks belonging to the Rhäetian Railway, the longest narrow-gauge railway in the world. A journey with one of the legendary “Express” trains (Glacier Express, Bernina Express and Arosa Express) is an unforgettable experience.
Due to the long hours of sunshine and the mild climate, the ‘Bündner Rheintal’, the Rhine Valley in the Grisons is the warmest wine-growing area in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. A wide variety of types of grape vine grow here in the scraggy and calcareous soil. The typical pinot noir from this area is today among the most coveted Swiss wines. The winegrowers from this area produce mainly homogeneous wines and mature a large share of these for years in small French wooden barrels, known as barriques. Year after year the winegrowers produce more than 60 different speciality wines from more than 42 types of grape.
A variety of summer outdoor activities are possible in the intact and spectacular natural countryside in the Grisons. Whether hiking with the family (11,000 marked hiking trails!), an interesting bike tour, a game of golf on one of the many golf courses, a refreshing swim in one of the 655 swimming and mountain lakes or a visit to one of the many health and wellness centres.
